Course: Chickens: Happy Chicken Coop Plan

In this unit exploration, kids will learn how to create a comprehensive plan for raising healthy and happy chickens. Whether they are just starting their flock or looking to refine their chicken-keeping skills, this unit will provide them with the knowledge to confidently care for their chickens. By the end, they’ll have a solid plan for their flock, ensuring their well-being and productivity.

WHAT THEY'LL LEARN

Throughout this unit exploration, they’ll explore three main chapters, each designed to help them build the perfect plan for their chickens:

CHAPTER BREAKDOWN:

• Chapter 1: Building Your Flock – We’ll begin by briefly reviewing the chicken lifecycle, discussing chick brooding basics, and exploring the supplies they’ll need for bringing new chicks home. We’ll also cover how to select the right breeds that will fit their flock’s needs and your family’s goals.

• Chapter 2: The Five Basic Needs of Chickens – Learn about the five essential needs that every chicken requires to thrive, from nutrition to their living environment, and how to meet them effectively.

• Chapter 3: Building Your Happy Chicken Plan – Using the Engineering Design Process, we’ll guide kids through the steps to create a functional and comfortable chicken coop design that meets the needs of your flock.

UNIT STRUCTURE AND ACTIVITIES

This unit is designed to help kids gradually build their knowledge and skills. Each chapter includes a narrative that introduces them to the topic, followed by activities to help reinforce what they have learned.
