Course: Plant Science & Garden Variety Taxonomy

In this unit exploration, kids will dive into plant science and plant taxonomy, learning how plants are classified and understood within agriculture and gardening. This journey will give them a deeper appreciation for the incredible variety of plants that make up our environment and how they play crucial roles in food production, landscaping, and ecosystems. Throughout this unit exploration, kids will explore three main chapters, each offering a unique look at plant science and taxonomy:

CHAPTER BREAKDOWN

Chapter 1: What is Plant Science?
Start by exploring the basics of plant science. Learn about the different branches of plant science and how they help us understand everything from plant growth to pest control. This chapter provides the foundation for the rest of the unit, giving kids the knowledge to appreciate plants in a whole new way.

Chapter 2: Plant Classifications, Characteristics & Growth
Here, we’ll dive into how plants are classified based on their characteristics, like their leaves, flowers, and growth habits. Kids will also learn how plants grow, the different types of lifecycles they follow, and how understanding these traits helps gardeners and farmers grow and care for plants more effectively.

Chapter 3: Plant Taxonomy
Discover the fascinating world of plant taxonomy. Learn how plants are grouped into divisions, classes, and orders, based on shared traits. This chapter will show how plant families are connected, and how understanding plant classification is essential for plant care, agriculture, and horticulture.

UNIT STRUCTURE AND ACTIVITIES

This unit is designed to help kids gradually build their knowledge and skills. Each chapter includes a narrative that introduces them to the topic, followed by activities to help reinforce what they have learned.
